Years 9-13 – Huge thanks to all the companies, universities and colleges that attended the Careers Evening on Thurs 12 Dec. It was a valuable opportunity for students to meet employers, universities and colleges face-to-face and to gain an understanding of the link between their learning and future careers. There is an overwhelming body of evidence that supports the assertion that increased motivation and attainment at school improves if one sees the relevance of their learning. Another part of the equation is parental engagement – so well done to all the parents and carers who took the time to support their young people. It can be overwhelming to keep abreast of the changing qualifications and progression routes. All students are able to register with www.careerpilot.org.uk to demystify the process. They also have some fantastic free on-line taster courses.
Work experience paperwork should now have been returned to your tutors. A big thank you to the www.educationbusinesspartnership.co.uk who took the time to answer any questions regarding their paperwork at the recent careers evening. Well done to all the students who have been emailing me evenings and weekends for advice.
A great start to the Mentoring programme – an opportunity to develop higher learning skills such as project research, team work and presentations. I am very proud of how keen the students are to ask questions, engage with other schools and make the most of this opportunity.
So many of you have already applied to college and 6th form but keep an eye out for visits so that you can make a decision based on what is right for you. Check your emails for your guidance interview.
