Year 6 Transition to Secondary School

Dear Parents, Carers and Students

Year 6 to 7 Transition 2020

Welcome to Prospect School. I am aware that we are in very different time and therefore our usual Transition programme will have to be somewhat different. Nevertheless, we will do all we can to ensure that your child’s journey from primary to secondary school is as smooth as possible.

At the moment, it seems that much of our transition programme will have to be done remotely. Miss Ralston, our Head of Key Stage Three is in contact with all Year 6 teachers and Primary Schools and is meeting them remotely; very important meetings in which are able to discuss the key considerations that we need to be aware of for every student joining us. It is unlikely that we will be able to organise transition visits before the end of the summer term, although if the situation changes, we will do all that we can to facilitate this. We still do not know for sure what school will be like in September, but we will ensure that all students have an extended period of settling in at the start of term. We have also reluctantly taken the decision to cancel summer school and our residential visit to Ufton Court – we hope you will understand our reasons for doing so; the safety of our students and staff is paramount in all our planning.

In the meantime, we would like to direct you to our transition page on our website: On this page, you will find answers to our most frequently asked questions, an introduction to the key members of staff that will facilitate the transition process and a work area; we have asked all our subjects to set a task for students to complete in order to prepare them for secondary school. After half term, we will be sending a pack home in the post with a number of forms that we will need you to complete and this pack will include an exercise book and writing equipment to support your child in completing the tasks. We would also appreciate it if you could complete our supplementary admissions form: this can be accessed via this link:

We are hoping to hold our Transition Information Evening via Zoom on 17 June; we will send a link out to this meeting after half term. By this time we should be in a much better position to answer detailed questions about how the transition process will work and what the start of term might look like in September.

In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in contact with either myself ( or my Deputy, Mary Morris (, who is leading our transition programme.

With very warm regards,

Mr D Littlemore
